Privacy
echoVin has no accounts and no sign-in. Your ratings and your palate profile live on your phone. When you search or scan, the request goes to our server to compute the verdict, and a photo goes to one AI provider to read the label. We don't sell data, run ads, or use tracking software.
What stays on your phone
- Your ratings and palate profile. The wines you have rated, and the profile built from them, are stored only in the app's local storage on your device.
- Your history. Recent verdicts are kept on the device so you can look back at them. Clear history in the app removes them. Deleting the app removes everything above.
None of this is uploaded to us, backed up by us, or visible to us.
What is sent when you use the app
- When you type a wine or ask for a verdict: the wine you asked about and the names of the wines you have rated are sent to our server so it can compute the fit. Our server does not store the request after answering it.
- When you scan a label or a list: the photo is sent to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API to read the wine names off the image. The photo is not stored by echoVin. Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its models; its handling of API inputs is described in Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Server logs. Like any web server, ours records the time of a request, the network address it came from, and, for scans, the kind of photo it was and how many wines were read. Logs do not contain the photo. They are kept for a short period for operations and troubleshooting.
Other services the app talks to
- Amazon Web Services hosts our server in the United States.
- Expo delivers over-the-air updates to the app's code. The app checks Expo's servers for a newer version when it launches.
- Apple TestFlight and Google Play distribute the beta and handle their own data under their own policies, including crash reports if you have opted in with them.
There is no analytics kit, advertising identifier, or third-party tracker in the app.
Camera and photos
The app asks for camera access to read labels and lists, and for photo library access only if you choose an existing photo. Both are optional. You can type a wine instead. Permissions can be withdrawn in your phone's settings at any time.
Age
echoVin is for adults 21 and over in the United States. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21, and the app collects no personal information by design.
This website
echovinapp.com is a static site. It sets no cookies, loads nothing from third parties, and records only ordinary server access logs.
Your choices
- Clear history or delete the app to remove everything stored on your device.
- Don't grant camera or photo access; typing works.
- Write to privacy@echovinapp.com with any question. A person reads it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. During the beta we expect it to change as features are added, and we will say what changed.
